Duluth, MN, wedding photographer Alan Johnson and his wife Linda have been photographing weddings in the Duluth area since 1999.
We work out of a studio location in the Town of Thomson, MN "The Gateway to Jay Cooke State Park", photographing, weddings, grads, children and families.
I have been working in photography for 35 years, with training in classical lighting and portraiture.
In today's market of wedding photography the bride has a vast amount of photographers, styles and prices to choose from. The current style seems to emphasize available light and "life style" or "photojournalistic" photography. This style does have a place in a photographers arsenal of knowledge ........ but, on a wedding day, a photographer who limits him/herself to this one style, either through lack of education and or equipment, also limits the bride and groom to the quality of pictures they deserve.
The wedding day is a day for family, friends celebration and pictures to remember it all by.
I believe taking the time for well lit and well posed group pictures at a time when people are together looking their best (or close to it), is worth the time and effort of the photographer and wedding party. Leaving this to chance is a chance I would not take.
On a day when the bride and groom are dressed as formal as they may ever be, limiting yourself to "candids" will also limit yourself to the quality of your pictures.
I enjoy posing the bride and groom in a free flowing quick style, working to come up with something new for each wedding I photograph.
Always continuing my education, having a second photographer and bringing extra camera and lighting equipment, allows me to be able to photograph any situation that comes up at a wedding.
